A “peace letter” expressing sympathy for the kidnapped children victims of the Russia-Ukraine war was given to Russian President Vladimir Putin by First Lady Melania Trump during his historic summit with US President Donald Trump in Alaska in August. An analyst claims that Putin is now using the much-praised gesture to influence Trump.
Uriel Epstein, executive director of the Renew Democracy Initiative, claims that Melania’s October 11 speech made clear that the First Lady was satisfied with Putin’s response to her letter, which involved the return of multiple children to Ukraine. She declared earlier this month that families had been reunited with war-displaced Ukrainian children following a “open channel of communication” with Putin.
In March 2016, a Putin ally offered Trump a secret back-channel to communicate with the Russian president.

According to Epstein, Putin’s gesture has now fully satisfied Melania, which is “very bad since the President listens to her.” Putin’s move, according to the analyst, has convinced Melania to soften her confrontational posture toward the Kremlin.
He went on to say that because Melania and Putin have been in contact for more than two months, the Russian leader has successfully contacted Donald Trump. “Putin only brought back eight children. Melania can claim to have assisted in the kids’ return. Putin says, “isn’t such a devil, you can talk to him,” all of a sudden. She used to claim that Russia had abducted the children, but now she is referring to children who “disappeared.” “Her rhetoric has changed,” Epstein continued.
According to Epstein, Melania was formerly a fierce opponent of Russia and had significant influence over her husband. “The Russian leader has won here, and that is no longer the case,” Epstein stated.
Putin is an old-fashioned KGB man. He is skilled at persuasion. Melania was a crucial vote for Trump, he realized. Melania calmed down after he gave her a tiny victory—a few kids. Thousands of Ukrainian children who were abducted are still in Russia, he continued.
Epstein claimed that even though 80 senators supported sanctions on Russia, Trump was reluctant to back them. According to him, the US president is probably observing his wife’s deteriorating status.
