Musical master Ilaiyaraaja sent a legal notice to Mythri Movie Makers in April for using his songs without permission. He also demanded Rs 5 crore in compensation and an apology for using three of his classic songs in the Adhik Ravichandran-directed film starring Ajith Kumar: “Oththa Roova” from “Nattupura Pattu” (1996), “Ilamai Idho Idho” from “Sakalakala Vallavan” (1982), and “En Jodi Manja Kuruvi” from “Vikram” (1986).

The Madras High Court has now ordered Mythri Movie Makers to stop “exhibiting, screening, selling, distributing, publishing or broadcasting” the movie and the aforementioned songs on any platform, including over-the-top (OTT), according to a report in The Hindu.

Due to the production house’s allegedly inadequate and unclear response, Justice N. Senthilkumar granted the ruling in favour of the plaintiff.

The production company allegedly stated that they had acquired the required authorisation in their response to the composer’s legal notification. Apart from the nature of the authorisation, they did not specify the precise identities of the people or businesses involved.

Ilaiyaraaja had previously accused the makers of “Manjummel Boys” of violating the Copyright Act (1957) by using a song from the Tamil film “Gunaa” (1991). More recently, he had sent legal notices to the makers of the upcoming Rajnikanth film “Coolie,” which was directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, for using one of his songs.

Starring Ajith, Trisha Krishnan, Arjun Das, Prasanna, Prabhu, Priya Prakash Varrier, and Jackie Shroff, “Good Bad Ugly” was released on April 10.
