Even though it meant two more Fantastic Four and Batman versions, a new Superman on screen, and two Hideo Kojima AAA games since GTA V, Rockstar Games has finally given fans a better idea of what to expect from the eagerly awaited Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA VI) after a protracted wait!

Although the first video for Grand Theft Auto VI was unexpectedly posted on YouTube in December 2023, the second trailer, which was released in May 2025, captivated the gaming community with fresh information about the game’s plot, characters, and the expansive Leonida universe.

What we currently know about Grand Theft Auto VI Lucia and Jason will be the game’s new protagonists.

The game will include a female lead named Lucia, which is a first for the franchise.

The pair is presented as a contemporary Bonnie and Clyde, entangled in a nefarious plot that will lead them through Vice City’s neon-lit streets and beyond.

“Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them, but when an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, in the middle of a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida—forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive,” says developer Rockstar Games, characterising their journey as a high-stakes struggle for survival.

Whoa, we’re back in Vice City?
More or less. The renowned Vice City serves as the focal point of the game, which is located in the fictional state of Leonida, a parody of Florida.

The “biggest, most immersive evolution of the Grand Theft Auto series yet,” according to Rockstar, will have a vast and intricate open world for players to explore.

The Everglades-inspired “Grassrivers” and other dubious settings were among the places we saw in the second video, which was released in May.

Date of GTA VI’s console and PC release in India
No, in contrast to many rumours, Rockstar Games officially stated that the initial release would only be available on the Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5/5Pro.

However, we do know when Grand Theft Auto VI will be available on consoles: May 26, 2026. To be completely honest, TakeTwo, the parent company of Rockstar, revealed the date in their investor presentation back in May.

The PC version was left out at launch, though, which is in line with the strategy Rockstar recently used for Red Dead Redemption 2 and even Grand Theft Auto V. With many gaming experts predicting a late 2027 or early 2028 release date, the PC version may arrive later.

In India, how much will GTA VI cost?
An official price has not yet been disclosed by Rockstar Games. The ordinary edition, however, is anticipated to cost more than ₹5,999. Some gaming commentators claim that DLCs and special editions could cost as much as ₹7,499 in the future.

For TakeTwo, the parent company of Rockstar, the Grand Theft Auto video games are not only commercial successes but also cultural landmarks.

Indeed, TakeTwo revealed in May that the entire Grand Theft Auto franchise sold close to 450 million units, with GTA V accounting for 215 million of those sales.

GTA V also has the distinction of being the fastest-selling entertainment product in history to achieve $1 billion in retail sales. According to TakeTwo, it is really the best-selling book in the US over the last ten years in terms of both unit and dollar sales.

Ironically, in terms of dollar sales, Red Dead Redemption 2 from Rockstar Games is also the best-selling game in the US during the last seven years.

Many of the open-world problems that beset Grand Theft Auto V were resolved in Red Dead Redemption 2. GTA VI may even improve because they fixed them in GTA Online.
